San Diego ISD Board approves pay increase for teachers

San Diego Independent School District teachers will see a pay increase for the 2025-2026 school year. The Board of Trustees approved the new pay scale at the board meeting held on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

The board of trustees unanimously approved the 2025-2026 teacher compensation plan. To be in compliance with HB 2, San Diego ISD provided a $4,000 pay increase to teachers with 3 and 4 years of experience, and an $8,000 pay increase to teachers with 5 or more years of experience. The approved teacher compensation plan adjusted beginning teacher pay and pay scale steps one and two. With this increase, the starting salary for beginning teachers will be $58,000.

Dr. Rodrigo H. Peña, Superintendent of Schools explained that this is one way the district is trying to attract and retain teachers. The pay raise puts San Diego ISD among the top paying districts in Region 2.

The San Diego ISD Board of Trustees also approved a 2025-2026 pay increase of three percent from midpoint for administrative professionals, clerical paraprofessionals, and auxiliary staff.
